The game was played before a crowd of 3,400 fans at Percy Perry Stadium in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada The U.S. finished 7-0 in the tournament and extended its all-time record in international competition to 36-0, dating back to the championships’ inception in 1988. Dolente was named the tourney’s Most Outstanding Midfielder. Also on the team from Philadelphia were midfielders Matt Mackrides (Malvern Prep, Penn State ’12) and James Green (Central Bucks East/Ohio State ’10) and defender John Lade (Randolph, N.J./Villanova ’12). The game will be played at 4 p.m. Pacific time. The U.S. team will play games each of the next four days against Australia, Japan, Canada and England. On Sunday the squad closed by whipping a team from Seattle, 21-2. Matt Mackrides, who graduated several weeks ago from Malvern, had two goals and two assists Sunday to help the Under-19 team crush an All-Star team from Potomac, Md., 17-6, in Bethesda. Just a day earlier, another Malvern Prep grad, Johns Hopkins freshman Matt Dolente won 17 of 22 face-offs and added one goal to lead the U.S. team to a convincing 15-7 victory over the Philadelphia All-Stars at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown. The U.S. team improved its exhibition record to 3-1 with the wins as it prepares for the 2008 International Lacrosse Federation U-19 World Championship July 3-12 in Coquitlam, British Columbia. “We felt today we made some real progress,” said U.S. team coach Chuck Apel after Saturday’s game. “As coaches we're getting a handle on these guys and how we want to use them. We have a ways to go, but we can really see things starting to come together.” In Sunday’s victory, Jack McBride had three goals and an assist and worked well with Mackrides to lead the attack. McBride assisted Mackrides twice, and Mackrides returned the favor once, helping the offense to find a rhythm that powered the U.S. to its highest goal total in the four exhibitions. The exhibition game is a fundraiser for the U.S. Under-19 team and will be held in conjunction with the Upper Atlantic Lacrosse Tournament - which features boys' travel lacrosse clubs from all over the mid-Atlantic Region. The Under-19 team features four local players, including recent Malvern Prep graduate Matt Mackrides (midfield), Johns Hopkins freshman midfielder Matt Dolente (Malvern Prep), Ohio State sophomore midfielder James Green (Central Bucks East) and Villanova freshman defender John Lade. The New Jersey all-stars were leading 7-6 when the game was halted. The U.S. team was playing in its second exhi bition game as it prepares for the World Championships July 3-12 in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. The Long Island all-stars were led by two Penn freshmen, Corey Winkoff (three goals) and Al Kohart (two goals). Four Philly players make Under-19 boys' World Team Phillylacrosse.com, Posted 1/13 Four Philadelphia players – Matthew Dolente and Matthew MacKrides of Malvern Prep, James Green of Central Bucks East and Villanova freshman defender John Lade – have been selected to represent the United States in the 2008 International Lacrosse Federation (ILF) Under-19 World Championships this July in British Columbia. The U-19 team was selected by the U.S. Lacrosse Player Selection Committee following tryouts last July at the Unive rsity of Maryland, Baltimore County campus. Dolente, of Phoenixville, graduated in the spring from Malvern and is a freshman midfielder at NCAA Division I National Champion Johns Hopkins. MacKrides, an attacker, is currently a senior at Malvern. Green, a sophomore at Ohio State from Doylestown, plays midfield. He scored 10 goals and had three assists last year as a freshman, starting seven games and appearing in 13 for the 9-5 Buckeyes. Lade, of Randolph, N.J., is an incoming freshman.
