Barrage shoot for third straight MLL championship

(CONTINUED)

Striebel led the Barrage with 31 goals and Goldberg had 29 in the regular season. Boyle paced the team in points with 44. All-MLL Kyle Sweeney (Springfield-Delco), Brett Moyer (Ridley) and Brian Spallina lead the Philadelphia defense.

That unit will need to be solid to keep Grant (47 goals, 64 points) from breaking loose. Midfielder Walters (32 goals) and attacker Jeff Zywicki (31) are also dangerous weapons.

The Barrage have reached the MLL postseason for the fourth time, having won the MLL Championship the three previous times (2004, 2006, 2007). Their all-time playoff record is a perfect 6-0 while Rochester is 0-4 in the postseason.

These are the same four teams that competed for the MLL Championship last season. Last year the #1 seed Barrage defeated Denver in the semifinals to face the #2 seed Riptide in the title game. The Riptide defeated the #3 seed Rattlers in the semis.

The Barrage went on to win their third MLL title, and second in as many seasons, defeating the Riptide by a score of 16-13 in the Championship Game. Philadelphia midfielder Striebel was named Championship Weekend Bud Light MVP. Striebel tallied five goals and four assists over the course of the weekend
